McNamara's Dynamic Urban Neighborhood
The McNamara Alumni Center is located in Stadium Village, a dynamic University of Minnesota neighborhood. With numerous restaurants, hotels, coffee shops and convenient stores, the alumni center is a great venue for conferences and events hosting out of town visitors. Since the 1920s, students and locals have converged here, both for its great food and its sporting events—from football to hockey to swimming.
While the neighborhood’s moniker derives from Memorial Stadium, torn down in 1992 and where the McNamara Alumni Center now stands, today the Golden Gophers football team takes the field at the beautiful and adjacent TCF Bank Stadium. Williams Arena and Mariucci Arena, home of Golden Gopher basketball and hockey respectively, are also located across the street from the alumni center.
Bedecked in vintage megaphones, pennants and sporty photos, Stub and Herbs is where you’ll find microbrews galore and tasty bar food. It’s been "the" hot spot since 1939. Nearby Sally’s Saloon is also a popular and lively restaurant, with outside seating with views of the Alumni Center.
If during your visit to the Alumni Center you’re more in the mood for a workout than a quick bite, find beautiful trails along the Mississippi River, get reenergized at CorePower Yoga or enjoy myriad offerings at the University Recreation Center located behind the Alumni Center.
Need to run an errand or two between conference sessions? Visit the century-old Harvard Market, which offers groceries, snacks and candy. Walking distance you'll find the University of Minnesota Bookstore, you'll find not only bestsellers and textbooks but a wide selection of University of Minnesota apparel. On your way back to McNamara, cross its plaza, buzzing with students studying, heading to class and tossing Frisbees.
No matter your event at McNamara, having convenient access to the offerings of the dynamic community of Stadium Village guarantees a pleasurable experience.
