Part-time jobs helping set up and staff McNamara’s events
The McNamara Alumni Center is an award-winning event venue in the Twin Cities hosting 600+ events a year. We hire part-time University of Minnesota students to help with events in two ways: 1. Helping set up tables and chairs for our events and afterwards store away the furniture or reset rooms for other events and 2. Helping staff our weeknight and weekend events, managing changes in set-up or assisting clients.
Student AV Technician—NOW HIRING
Availability:
- This is a part-time position with flexible hours, including evenings and weekends based on event schedules.
- Average of 5-15 hours per week. Hours per week vary, depending on the event schedule.
- Year-round employment is strongly desired, including campus breaks and summer months.
Job Description:
- This position provides support and reports to the AV Manager
- Serve as a day-of onsite AV technician for events with less complex AV elements
- Set up, operate, and break down AV equipment, including microphones, projectors, speakers, video conferencing systems, and lighting for events
- Provide on-site technical support during events to troubleshoot and resolve AV issues in real-time
- Assist with equipment inventory and ensure all equipment is regularly tested and maintained
Qualifications & Skills:
- Superior customer service skills
- Confident and clear communication skills
- Resourceful and make good judgments, especially when troubleshooting in front of clients
- Prioritizing multiple tasks
- Attention to detail
- Move and lift equipment, approximately 30 pounds
- Present a neat and professional appearance
Event Setup Crew
$16-$17 per hour
Availability:
- Average of 5-10 hours per week with shifts typically lasting 2-4 hours long. Hours per week vary, depending on the event schedule.
- Shifts occur primarily in the late evenings/weekends and vary based on the event schedule.
- Mid-day shifts may be required when a room flip is scheduled during an event.
- Year-round employment is strongly desired, including campus breaks and summer months.
Job Description:
- Help perform the setup of events such as dinners, conferences and weddings in 10 different event spaces
- Transport, move and lift furniture (tables, chairs, etc.)
- Accurately interpret floorplans created by event coordinators for proper room setups
Qualifications & Skills:
- Ability to move and lift furniture up to approximately 25 pounds
- Work flexible hours depending on the event schedule
- Function in a team-based environment (2-5 crew per shift)
- Excellent attention to detail and timeliness
- Responsible and reliable
Student Event Assistant
$17 per hour
Availability:
- Average of 8-14 hours per week with shifts lasting 2-8 hours long. Hours per week vary, depending on the event schedule.
- Shifts occur primarily weeknights and weekends and vary based on the event schedule.
- Mid-day shifts may be required when a room flip is scheduled during an event.
- Year-round employment is strongly desired, including campus breaks and summer months.
Job Description:
- Serve as the venue contact for weeknight and weekend event clients (conferences, weddings, galas, etc)
- Thoroughly review each event’s file and confirm room setup is accurate, AV is on and ready, etc.
- Greet clients upon their arrival and facilitate any room setup changes (add tables, AV, etc.)
- Operate AV including laptop presentations, panel microphones, etc.
- Give tours to prospective clients to generate bookings
- Shut down meeting rooms and lock up building, noting issues that need attention by building management—vandalism, doors not locking, etc.

- Self-directed; able to work independently
- Prioritizing multiple projects and tasks
- Attention to detail
- AV operation
- Resourceful and make good judgments, especially when troubleshooting
- Move and lift furniture, approximately 25 pounds
